This nationally recognised qualification is intended for students who are interested in pursuing a professional career in horticulture, as well as dedicated amateur gardeners who wish to have their knowledge formally assessed.

This course is delivered in three ways: a one year day course, a two year evening course or as distance learning.

The certificate requires students to sit an examination in the February and June for the one year course, or each June for the two year course. Students wishing to enrol on the distance learning programme can do so any time in the year. Students on this programme benefit from tutor support via e-mail and the Internet with entry for the examination based entirely on the student's progress.

The day and evening courses contain a limited practical element.

It is essential that students understand that examinations must be taken in accordance with RHS examinations office requirements.
