Whether you are intending to keep your own sheep or are just interested in sheep, this course is suitable for you. It is also very useful for anyone working in the sheep industry or hoping to do so in the future. It will give you the necessary underpinning knowledge and practical skills to successfully look after sheep.
If you wish to join the course but not complete the NVQ qualification you will not be required to attend some assessment days: this can be discussed with the course tutor before of after the start of the course.

What qualifications will I need?
Interest in sheep. Students wishing to take the NVQ should speak to the course tutor. Tetanus protection is recommended.

What is involved?
(+5 days for the NVQ qualification) Practical sessions working with sheep, underpinning knowledge. NVQ days include assessments.

Where will it take me?
Farm work, keeping sheep.

What else does the course include?
NVQ 2 NPTC Certificate Veterinary Medicine

What materials are required?
Waterproof outdoor clothing, overalls and wellington boots. Basic stationery and calculator. Tetanus protection is recommended.

What is next?
NVQ livestock. Full time courses or specialist certificates of competence.

How will I be assessed?
For NVQ students there are assignments and tests for each unit and workplace diary records are kept for inclusion in the final assessment portfolio. NVQ students collect work based evidence (assessed whilst working).

The students will use the College farm and the flock of breeding ewes. There will be visits to other farms near the College.
