Course content:
This level 1 class is for students who wish to develop their watercolour painting skills. We will be working on a range of projects aimed at complete beginners or students who have a little experience of watercolour.
By the end of the course you will be able to -
- Mix the colours you need to match your subject matter,
- Create watercolour paintings using wet in wet and wet on dry techniques.
- Create drawings and paintings using a basic knowledge of perspective.
- Experiment with water colour techniques.
- Compose paintings inspired by topics such as still-life, landscape, architecture, nature and the human figure.

Course Structure:
Step by step instruction with demos where appropriate. Students will be shown examples of work by other artists to gain insight into how to use various techniques and methods. The course is spread over the academic year. You will also be encouraged to visit relevant art exhibitions independently. Trips out will be made to work directly from nature e.g. Kew gardens or Richmond Park during the summer term.

Course resources:
You will need a range of water colour paints and brushes and pencils. A list is available on the first day of the course. Paper can be bought at college unless you prefer to bring a large water-colour paper sketchbook.

Assessment:
Self assessment in Independent Learning Plans. Group crits occur at the end of each project.

Fee 1: Standard fee;
Fee 2: Aged 60+ years fee
Students in receipt of an income-based benefit pay £20 per course per term.
You will need to bring proof of age and any benefits when you enrol.
You DO NOT have to pay a college registration fee for these courses, but you may have to pay for additional course materials.Materials costs:
You will need to provide all your own materials, as advised by your tutor. Some may be available for purchase at the Centre
