If you have an interest in Performing Arts and wish to study this further then this course is suitable for you. This highly practical qualification is aimed at students hoping for a career in Performing Arts and has several pathways: Dance, Acting and Musical Theatre. This qualification is equivalent to 1.5 A Levels.
Note: Students enrolling for the Level 3 Diploma progress to the full Extended Diploma after one year, subject to completing the coursework satisfactorily.
This course is designed to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding in your chosen specialism. The relevant specialist units might include:
Dance: ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary and urban techniques, choreography, performance and anatomy for dance.
Acting: Acting techniques, classical and contemporary text, movement studies, radio acting, voice, theatre in education and performance.
Musical Theatre: Dance techniques (ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary and urban), acting techniques, voice, singing.
Technical Theatre: Lighting, sound, prop making, events management, production management, stage management.

About this course
You will need to have gained at least 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, preferably including English. You will also be required to attend an interview, as well as an audition, where you will be expected to demonstrate your passion for a career in this area with the commitment and dedication which you will need to succeed.

Course programme
You may decide to continue your studies in Performing Arts by progressing onto the Extended Diploma and subsequently to a Higher Education course either at university or at Havering College. You may also wish to apply to a professional theatre school.
The course aims to prepare you for employment in the entertainment industry. In recent years students have gone on to performance careers, teaching careers in a variety of areas, stage management and other theatre-related work.
Course Assessment Method
Assessment is both practical and theoretical. All work is internally assessed and externally moderated by the examination board Edexcel. Grades awarded are Pass, Merit or Distinction.
The core units that all specialism study are: Historical Context in Performance, Performing Arts Business and Performance Work.
