Experienced players can keep up practice in a mixed ensemble playing tunes you are familiar with. Each session will focus on two jazz standards. You will rehearse the "head", establish the rhythm section, and practise improvising. We aim to record the results in the last segment of the session.

About this course

- Show an improved stylistic awareness
- Demonstrate developed fluency of rhythm and pulse co-ordination
- Demonstrate your technique further to enable to co-op with more advanced repertoire
- Demonstrate an improved tone quality
- Display a subtle pedalling technique
- Make independent decisions in regards to pedalling, ornaments and articulation
- Produce layered texture of 2-3 voices.

Students should have access to a piano (acoustic) for practice between classes and budget approximately £15 per term for music being studied. Please contact the music office for the latest repertoire list. It is often possible to borrow scores from local libraries.

Repertoire for this module:
Czech(oslovakia) Republic: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th, 21st century.

Each member will be individually coached. Involvement in other class members’ performances through attentive listening, practical illustration and peer feedback.

- Two or three composers will be selected per term plus own choice pieces.

- knowledge and awareness of repertoire including styles from baroque-period to contemporary styles as agreed by tutor and students in a workshop environment

- preparing for informal concerts.

You may take Piano repertoire for as long as you wish or progress to Piano: advanced workshop. Your tutor will advise you. You may also be interested in Music theory (all levels to Grade 8, diploma topics and counterpoint classes), Practical Musicianship, or one of City Lit's wide range of Music appreciation courses, including courses specifically on piano and keyboard music.
