Course programme
This framing fabrics course focuses on the skills needed to frame embroideries, tapestries or other fabrics. During the workshop, you will be shown various techniques when preparing fabric for framing. You learn to stretch, and then pin or stitch or lace the piece to secure the fabric to prepare it ready to frame.
Once you have your fabric stretched and ready for framing, you move on to learning the techniques for planning and creating a frame, including planning and cutting mounts to enhance your artwork and measuring, mitring (cutting) and joining the moulding to make up the picture frame. You learn to cut glass and backing and to assemble the bundle to make a frame ready to hang.
By the end of the 3-day workshop you should understand the steps that you need to take to make a framed, mounted and glazed picture for a piece of fabric. Depending on your progress, you should be able to take home 2 complete framed pieces. The class is suitable for those who have never cut mounts or made a frame before and also to those who have had some experience and who would like to learn to work with fabric.
Each day is a combination of practical hands-on sessions interspersed with short theory and demonstration sessions and allows you to work at your own pace. You will be encouraged to work with the others in the group and the general atmosphere is relaxed and fun.
