Course programme
This course focuses on bespoke finishes to frames and mounts. During the workshop, you learn to plan and cut mounts for your artwork, with a focus on how to add more decorative aspects to the mount, such as v-grooves, double and multiple mounts and adding wash-lines. We will work with a set mount board size, to minimize the time spent on measure and cutting and to maximise the time spent on learning new techniques.
We will also look at adding different finishes to raw wood mouldings, including painting waxing and staining. The emphasis will be on trying different techniques to build up a collection of samples for future projects. You will work on small pieces of raw wood and not complete frames.
Whether you are an artist or photographer or simply want to learn to mount and frame your own art, this workshop offers a space where you can learn the techniques to enhance your work.
The class is suitable for those who have never cut mounts or made a frame before and also to those who have had some experience and who would like to work on a few more techniques.
Each day broken up into hands on sessions interspersed with short theory and demonstration sessions and allows you to work at your own pace. Working with others is encouraged and the general atmosphere is relaxed and fun.
You should take home a selection of mount and frame samples for future projects.
