Picture Framing

Level: Level 1

Course content:
This course is suitable for beginners as well as students wishing to extend their skills with more decorative mounts, additional wood finishes and more complex frames. Students will frame art work of their own choice with help from the tutor. Bring a photograph, print or painting which you wish to frame to the first lesson.
By the end of the course you will have learnt:
types of framing and mount materials.
to cut mounts
To make a frame including cutting, joining, wood-finishing, and assembling.
More experienced students will be able to do more decorative work and experiment with different finishes and frames.
By the end of the course will have learnt how to use hand tools safety and basic Health and Safety rules for the workshop.

Course Structure:
A workshop basis with some group tuition on topics and one to one support from your tutor.

Course resources:
The workshop has hand tools for your use and is equipped with workbenches. All students have access to our fully equipped state of the art learning centre. This included free internet access.

Assessment:
Teacher's feedback. Individual learning plans. Student and peer self-assessment. A completed picture frame.

When information is available you will notice 2 different fees stated for this course. The fee you pay is dependent on your status:
Fee 1: Standard fee;
Fee 2: Aged 60+ years fee
Students in receipt of an income-based benefit pay £20 per course per term.
You will need to bring proof of age and any benefits when you enrol.
You DO NOT have to pay a college registration fee for these courses, but you may have to pay for additional course materials.Materials costs:
This will depend on your choice of frame and other materials such as card for mounts, framing materials and glass. The tutor will advise you where to buy them.
