Course Level Level 2

Description
This course has been designed for trainee plumbers to achieve an NVQ level 2 qualification.
You should have completed the Technical Certificate 6129 scheme at level 2.

Course Length
1 year part-time. Course fees paid entitle you to one year of assessment from your start date. If you do not achieve within this time and still wish to complete your NVQ you will be expected to pay for a further year of assessment.

What will I study?
There is no study involved as this is a work based qualification.


How will I learn?
The scheme is assessed in the following areas:

Safety
Preparation
Install copper pipe work*
Install steel pipe work*
Install plastic pressure pipe work*
Install plastic soil and waste pipe work*
Install guttering and rainwater pipe work*
Install sheet lead chimney weathering systems*
Install lead slates*
Install of complete systems (discussed later)
Decommission of systems
System maintenance

All of the above MUST be assessed. * can be transferred from the Tech Cert 6129.

You MUST also choose a minimum of TWO of the following sections; these will be assessed in more detail with observations by your assessor.

Domestic cold water systems
Domestic hot water systems
Central heating systems
Sanitation systems

Remember: Assessment is proving competence and experience so you should be full conversant with your chosen tasks before assessment takes place.


How will I be assessed?
Your work on site will be assessed whilst you are undertaking tasks for your plumbing employer. You will need a work based recorder to sign off parts of your work; he/she must be a qualified plumber (NVQ2 or equivalent) and be in the same employ as you. (This could be the company owner or a fellow employee).

Where could it lead?
Successful completion of the Plumbing NVQ Level 2 enable you to carry out most normal plumbing duties. An NVQ Level 2 in Plumbing will also enable you to progress onto Plumbing Technical certificate Level 3.
