What is this course about? This is a preparatory course which will help you to develop the core skills necessary to studying on a Level 3 courses such as Access.

Who is this course for? For adults who can read and write English fairly confidently, but still need to improve their skills before going on to a Level 3 course. You will be expected to progress onto further study in the second semester. If successful, you will progress on to a Level 3 Access course or similar course in the following year. The Access course prepares you for entry to university.,

What do I need to get on the course? No formal qualifications are required. Acceptance will be based on an assessment test and on interview. You must have the necessary motivation and commitment to study for a year with a view to possible progression to further study.

What will I study? You will study the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Study Skills. You will also have the opportunity to choose subject options from a range of Humanities, Social Science and Business topics. You also receive information and help in applying for further study or work.

What qualification will I get? NOCN (National Open College Network) Award of Progression certificate. You will also gain a National Certificate of Literacy at Level 1.

What can I do after the course? The course is designed to lead onto the NOCN Progression Diploma or Certificate, and the National Certificate of Literacy at Level 2, in the second semester. Successful completion of these may lead on to an Access course or similar.,

How do I get on the course? Complete a College application form, followed by interview.

How much does the course cost? Home students fee for September 2008 will be £1,180 per year. Concessionary students pay a £40 annual registration charge which covers any courses where concessions are available.
