About this course
Applicants will need three GCSEs at Grade C or above (including Maths and Science) to start directly on this course. However, with at least 3 GCSE's at Grade D applicants would start on the Pre-Apprenticeship at Level 1 and then progress onto this course. What will I Learn?
Areas of study include:
City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology:
- Working Effectively and Safely in the Electrotechnical Environment
- Principles of Electrotechnology
- Application of Health and Safety and Electrical Principles
- Installation (Buildings and Structures)
Learners will also study Functional Skills at the following levels (if not already achieved at GCSE):
- Information Technology - Level 1
- Communication - Level 2
- Application of Number - Level 2
How will I Learn?
The course is a mixture of practical work and theory. It is carried out in the workshops at the ETEC Centre. The ETEC facility is equipped with extensive electrical and IT resources.
Work consists of a series of practical tasks, with underpinning knowledge, ensuring that a range of the necessary skills are developed throughout the course.
Please note, learners must provide overalls and protective footwear (not trainers) for the workshop, along with standard stationery equipment.
How will I be Assessed?
Learners will sit four online multi-choice tests set by City & Guilds. They will also complete two timed practical assessments. Functional Skills are assessed by both course work and tests.
What Enrichments are Available?
Learners will have access to various activities within the College to develop and broaden their experience of College life.
Are there any Trips or Visits?
Trips and visits do not form a part of this course but learners are encouraged to take part in enrichment activities.
Is there any Work Experience?
The timetable allows for some industrial placement / work experience every week, subject to availability.
What can I Progress to?
Successful completion of the course will provide the opportunity to progress to employment and a further two years training to complete the Advanced Apprenticeship framework.
Learners who successfully complete this course and have not gained employment will be offered a place on the City and Guilds Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology Level 3.
