DAYS & TIMES: Tuesdays 4.00 - 9.00pm

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
The P(G)CE is run in partnership with the University of Northampton and is designed to respond to the changing agenda in The Learning & Skills Sector. The course combines practical teaching experience supported with a strong theoretical framework. The Certificate is validated by Standards Verfication UK, the national endorsement body standards verifcation authority. This two year part time programme leads to the award of Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills Status (QTLS) following a period of professional formation.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?
YEAR 1:

Individual Learning Planning
Reflective Practice
Professional Practice (minimum of 4 teaching practice observations)

YEAR 2:

Individual Development Planning
Critical Reflection for Practice in the Lifelong Learning Sector
Advanced Professional Practice (minimum of 4 teaching practice observations)

WHAT WILL I ACHIEVE?
Once you have completed the course and been awarded QTLS status you will be able to develop your career as a teacher, tutor or trainer in any context of the Lifelong Learning Sector. This makes you a fully qualified member of the teaching profession in this sector.

Because the programmes seek to enhance your subject knowledge and associated subject pedagogy, once qualified you are well placed to develop your teaching skills both within and across a variety of curricular structures.
PREREQUISITES
In addition to the standard University Admissions Policy the following criteria will apply:

For trainees enrolling on the Professional Graduate Certificate:
* To have gained a first degree in a UK higher education institution or equivalent qualification. Where a first degree comprises 300 HE CATS points 60 must be at level 6 of the National Qualifications Framework.

* Have appropriate subject specific qualification/s or suitable subject specific experience that indicates the potential for further development during the course.

* Obtain Enhanced CRB clearance.

* Attend an interview in order to demonstrate written/verbal communication skills, numeracy skills and the personal qualities required to achieve the P(G)CE Certificate.

In addition, trainees will be asked to provide a written guarantee that throughout the duration of the programme:

* They will be engaged in at least 75 hours (per year) of subject specific teaching in a Lifelong Learning Sector context.

* They will have access to a subject specialist mentor, who will carry out 2 teaching practice observations per year.

If you are a graduate with a first degree or equivalent, you may achieve the Professional Graduate Certificate in Education. Year 2 is assessed at level 6 for graduates.
