Public Services at Blackpool and the Fylde College is an exciting, active and rewarding course delivered by tutors who are experts in their field, these experts can provide you with all the support and guidance you need to get you qualified and employed or for you to progress onto higher level courses. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities will be both practical and theory based and include where possible vocational experts currently serving in the Uniformed Public Services. The course is over one academic year and you will study eight topics listed below worth 1.5 A'Levels. You will study the following units: Government, Policies and the Public Services (10 credits) Leadership and Team work in the Public Services (15 credits) Citizenship, Diversity and the Public Services (15 credits) Understanding Discipline in the Uniformed Public Services (10 credits) Physical Preparation, Health and Lifestyle in the Public Services (10 credits) Fitness testing in the Uniformed Public Services (10 credits) Crime and its effects on society (10 credits) Responding to Emergency Incidents (10 credits) You will also have a dedicated PE practical session each week which you must participate in. As part of your Programme of Study, you will also cover the following area. You must complete all of these qualifications to be successful: Developmental maths and English programme Tutorial – you will have a one to one every 4 – 5 weeks with your tutor to assess your progress and set targets Work Experience and Volunteering programme- employer visits, hands on experiences, guest speakers from industry experts.

Course programme
After the first year you will progress onto the second year of the course and complete the full BTEC Extended Diploma in Uniformed Public Services, equivalent to 3 A Levels. To gain entry to the second year of the programme you will need a minimum of 92% attendance and to meet your minimum target grade (MTG). Your minimum target grade is set from your GCSE results. Your tutor will tell you more about this in induction.
