Introduction This qualification comprises units which are based on the new National Occupational Standards developed by Skillsmart Retail, the sector skills council for the retail sector.
The NVQ will be appropriate for candidates who are:
- already competent in basic skills and require recognition for a wider range of abilities in retailing;
- progressing from the Level 1 NVQ in Retail Skills;
- wishing to demonstrate competence gained previously in retailing or associated industries.
Course Units To achieve this qualification, candidates must achieve 6 units made up of 1 mandatory unit and 5 optional units.
Mandatory unit - Work effectively in your retail team
Optional Units include (among others):
Sales
- Help customers choose products in a retail environment
- Maximise product sales in a retail environment
- provide information and advice to customers in a retail environment
- promote loyalty schemes to customers in a retail environment
Stock management
- receive goods and material into storage in a retail environment
- put goods and materials into storage in a retail environment
- process customer orders for goods in a retail environment
Product expertise
- prepare products for sale to customers in a retail environment
- process bake-off products for sale in a retail environment
- process fish and shellfish for sale in a retail environment
- process greengrocery products for sale in a retail environment
- finish meat products by hand in a retail environment
Finance and Administration
- Process payments for purchases in a retail environment
- Process payments and credit application for purchases in a retail environment
- Process cash and credit transactions in a retail environment
- Follow point-of-sale procedures for age-restricted products in a retail environment
Customer Service
- Process returned goods and materials in a retail environment
- Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation

Tuition Fees(Cost) Prices available on request and subject to project funding eligibility
Progression Route There is direct progression to OCR Level 3 NVQ in Retail and into the related areas of Team Leading, Management, Administration, IT and Customer Service NVQs
