This course is ideal for those with some drawing & sculpting experience who have a particular interest in the genre of figurative sculpture.
Rodin paved the way for 'modern' sculpture, challenging accepted traditions in his figures, portraits, groups and conceptual work. He was Hugely inspired by Ancient Greek: Michelangelos and Ghiberti sculptures in his art practice and inspiration for’ Gates of Hell’ many of these works Rodin reworked throughout his life.
The V&A has 23 Rodin sculptures, including 18 given by the sculptor himself in 1914 many are on display in Room 21 for your examination and make an informed judgement alongside Michelangelo and Lorenzo Ghiberti Gates of Paradise 1425-52 this Plaster Cast was produced 1867 and on show when Rodin visited London.

About this course
• Have an understanding of Rodin’s work and variety of influences.
• Recognise the importance of Ancient Greek and Renaissance Sculpture in Rodin’s practice.
• Develop a personal sketchbook in response to off-site visits to British Museum & V & A.
• Use your visual research and ideas to create a clay sculpture in response to Rodin: &/OR Michelangelo &/or Ghiberti.
• Off Site Activities Please buy an A4 sketchbook and drawing materials for off site visit.
• City Lit Activities All basic tools and materials are provided. Please bring a sketchbook. You will need to wear sturdy closed shoes.
