If you answered Yes to these questions, this course could be the start of a rewarding new career. The course is delivered either day release or evening, over an 18 month period. Training bursaries are available. Hastings and Rother SCITT the only one of its kind in the south east involves a partnership of local secondary schools from both state and independent sectors and offers candidates the opportunity to train in a variety of teaching environments.
Applicants should possess a degree in their chosen subject (or at least 50% relevant to that subject) and have GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above, and be able to demonstrate some experience of working with young people. Initially these courses are for those wishing to teach Maths, Science or Modern Foreign Languages. However, it is anticipated that other specialisms will be added in the future.
Over the period trainees can expect to have completed:
- A minimum of 120 days school experience
- A minimum of 4 weekend workshops
- 3 Professional Studies Assignments and a Professional File
- 3 Curriculum Studies Assignments and a Curriculum File
- 5 internal / external assessments and a Teaching File
Throughout the course each trainee will enjoy the support of a programme manager, a subject co-ordinator and an individual mentor
