Enjoy the magic of silk painting and learn techniques to create different effects hosted in the stunning Hautbois Hall.
To start the day you will produce a tester sample. This will enable you to experiment with different techniques and colours allowing you to see all the the dazzling effects that you might wish to include on your final piece.
You will then work with a rolled and sewn edge silk scarf (28x114 cm) creating your own design under the guidance of Liz and the rest of the team. At the end of the day your scarf will be ready for you to take home and wear.
All materials are supplied. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting splashed. Bring your own pinnie if you wish. The team will be on hand throughout the day to ensure you will go home having painted a beautiful and unique scarf.
Depending on time, you will have the opportunity to make a pair of earrings or brooch from your test square, and also have a go at furoshiki – the ancient Japanese art of fabric folding.
Hautbois Hall is not only an inspiring, scenic location it also boasts newly refurbished, self catering holiday cottages. If you would like to book accommodation in addition to your course get in touch and we can help.

Course programme
First you will create a silk sampler, a small square of silk on which you will practice a number of different techniques. This will help you get a feel for the medium and find a technique and colour pallette that suits your design aesthetic.
You will then create your final piece, a full sized silk scarf, It will be ready to take home at the end of the day. You will make use of your favourite techniques from the sampler and create a truly unique piece.
Painting silk is an almost magical process that is so fun to do, nothing like painting conventional materials.
