Practical Maths and English Internal work activities such as producing products to sell, working on a stall, taking part in running a businesss such as a cafe Vocational Tasters: Horticulture, Hospitalities/Catering, Retail Personal and Social Development Students will develop skills in communication, practical number and using technology. They will work on making choices, keeping safe, using their leisure time, getting on with others, self awareness and general skills for daily living. They will also start to develop an understanding of the world of work and skills needed to get and keep a job. The Skills for Independence and Work course is delivered at Keighley College, and Joseph Priestley Centre, Beeston
All classes have full access to the learning support, care and access teams. The campus is accessible to all, providing quality equipment and facilities such as the canteen, coffee shop, student area and library. The campuses are situated within the City of Leeds and are close to all local amenities, which we use to enhance learning in real life situations.
Students will be given the opportunity to take part in internal work placements in the following areas: Gardening and Maintenance (Joseph Priestley), Retail (Park Lane & Technology Campus) and Cafe work (Technology Campus). In the first year of this pathway students will have the opportunity to try all three vocational areas and will be supported with travel where necessary. Students requiring an Entry or Pre-entry level course will have varied educational backgrounds and experiences. The college will work with individuals, families and other professionals to devise a programme of learning appropriate to individual needs and aspiration which is likely to focus on the development of skills which enable further learning at a higher level, the development of independent living and/or life skills and employability skills which lead to meaningful employment.
