AS H181 CONTENT (YEAR ONE)
Unit G671: Exploring Socialisation, Cultural and Identify
This unit introduces you to key concepts associated with developing a sociological understanding of the contemporary social world. You will also explore methods of sociological research. This unit is assessed though a written exam. The question paper consists of questions based on one piece of pre-released data. (1½ hours)
Unit G672: Topics in Socialisation, Culture and Identity
This unit develops your knowledge and skills acquired in Unit 671 and seeks to develop your understanding of the nature of sociological thought in the context of Religion. This Unit is assessed through a written exam. You will be required to answer two questions based on religion. (1 ½ hours)

Unit G673: Power and control
This unit is designed to enable you to build on the sociological understanding you have acquired in AS Sociology and to develop an understanding of the core themes of power, control and social inequality and difference. You will explore these issues through a detailed study of education.
This Unit is assessed through a written exam. You will be required to write two essays. (1½ hours)
Unit G674 Exploring Social Inequality and difference
In this Unit you will study and explain patterns of inequality in the contemporary UK. You also examine sociological methods.
This Unit is assessed through a written exam. The question paper includes one piece of research on social inequality and difference (not pre-released).

Unit G673 Written examination 100 marks 25% (1.5 hours)

HOW WILL I STUDY?
Various teaching and learning strategies are used by the department working in groups, discussion, individual tutorials and self-supported study. As this is an essay based course, students are encouraged to read as widely as possible. You will also be encouraged to make use of computer software and Internet resources.
WHAT DOES THE SUBJECT COMBINE WELL WITH?
Sociology can be studied alongside a range of other subjects such as English literature, Geography, Law, History, Psychology, Media studies and Philosophy.
