What will I study
There are two main units at both AS and A2:
AS:
Unit 1 - An introduction to how society works including aspects of social class, ethnicity, age and gender issues. We also look at sociological research skills.
Unit 2 - A detailed study of youth culture (styles, fashions, delinquency and education) or the family (single parenthood, marriage, divorce, childhood and changing roles of the family).
A2:
Unit 1 - The role and power of education (role of education, educational experiences based on gender, class and ethnicity, educational policy, schools and social control.
Unit 2 - Inequality in society based on wealth, income, class gender and ethnicity including research skills.
Assessment
All 4 units assessed by examinations. One module is taken in January and one in May/June for both AS and A2 courses.
Useful Supporting Courses
Links very well with Philosophy, Psychology, Government & Politics, History, English subjects and Media Studies. It can be taken with any other A Level.
