Sports Leadership Award
Welcome to Reigate College and to the Sports Leaders Award.
The main aim of the SLA is an exciting and active course aiming to produce responsible, motivated and confident people who can lead safe, purposeful and enjoyable sporting and recreational activities. It is designed to encourage people to get involved in organising and assisting with the provision of sport on a voluntary basis.
The Award provides a common foundation for the coaching schemes of the national governing bodies of sport. As such, it concentrates on improving the leadership skills required to plan, prepare and present sports sessions and evaluate the activity.
What will I study on this course?
The SLA is divided into eight units.
How is this course assessed?
All SLA students are assessed on a continuous basis throughout the course. Opportunities are offered to the candidates to demonstrate their practical leadership skills and knowledge. The candidates are assessed by a combination of the following methods: -
What kind of student will do well on this course?
Any student who has an enthusiastic interest in sport, teaching or volunteering. The course is ideal for developing self confidence, communication and organisational skills which are useful in any career choice.

Sports Leaders UK Level Two Award in Community Sports Leadership.

- Know your Friends
- Fitness for Sport
- Events and Competitions
- Improvisation of Activities
- Games and Activity Experience
- 10 hours Voluntary Work Experience

All SLA students are assessed on a continuous basis throughout the course. Opportunities are offered to the candidates to demonstrate their practical leadership skills and knowledge. The candidates are assessed by a combination of the following methods: -
- Observation of performance
- Performance of specially set tasks
- Questioning
- Prior achievement i.e. the candidate may already be able to show evidence of having completed work relevant to the course e.g. First Aid qualification.
