SPORTS LEADERS UK AWARD (DANCE)
The 'Sports Leaders' Level 1 Award in Dance Leadership provides ideal training for those people wishing to lead groups in sporting and recreational activity. It is designed for those over the age of 16, irrespective of their ability, who seek the opportunity to train and provide voluntary assistance alongside qualified dance teachers, thereby increasing their own knowledge, confidence and experience.

As this award is a nationally recognised qualification they are ideal for any student who is interested in Dance or Dance teaching and working with children and for enriching students' Curriculum Vitae. When continued in the Upper 6 through Higher Sports Leader Award it will attract UCAS points from 2008

Core Values
  • Personal Development: helping people reach their true potential.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A stepping stone to employment: provides a recognised qualification.
  • Developing Leadership: teaching organisation, motivation and teamwork skills.
  • Volunteering in the community: encouraging people to help others.
What and how will I be studying?
The Level 1 Course is divided into eight units:
  • Organisational Skills
  • Safety in Dance
  • Know Your Friends
  • Fitness For Dance
  • Planning and adapting sessions
  • Improvisation of activities
  • Games and Activity Experience
  • 10 Hours Voluntary Leadership Experience
How is the Course assessed?
Observation and questioning by the course leader, external verifier and 10 hours voluntary service

What opportunities are there?
Many students coach a variety of dance activities locally and abroad in their vacation, on HolidayParks and Summer Camps. The leadership and organisational skills developed on the Level one course form a sound foundation for progression onto the Higher Sports Leaders Award and National governing Body coaching courses. The Level three award equips students with a much broader leadership experience and, potentially, access to university when it is hoped it will attract UCAS points in 2006.
