Helping you to push you own individual projects forward creatively with the help of lots of technical and tutorial support. Have to space to work in our creative and well equipped studio, share your ideas and meet other like minded practitioners and receive feedback about your work.

Our studio is well equipped with lots of hand and machine stitch equipment including Bernina sewing machines, Babylock embellishers and smocking machines. Print facilities include small silk screens and mono printing with textile pigments.

We have lots of mark making tools, drawing equipment paint brushes etc. A heat press for transfer dyes or heat setting as well as irons, hair dryers and related equipment.
Please make contact with visual arts if you need to enquire about a specific piece of equipment.

About this course

- Use the studio as a creative space to develop your work in.
- Discuss and evaluate your current project in a positive way
- Contribute to group discussions about other students work
- Consider alternative approaches or techniques if appropriate to you current project.

You will need to bring any work that you have been doing regarding your current project in progress so that it can used to look at in discussions. This may be sketchbooks samples or previous pieces.
The City Lit will provide some basic materials but you will need to provide materials specific to your project, fabric threads etc.
Some printing inks , paper, drawing materials, glue bondaweb, threads, scrap fabrics and wools will be available.

As this course is about your own practice and developing it within the Textile studio, the homework is really up to you but advice will be given during tutorials regarding research or preparation that would be needed.
To take full advantage of the time and space you should allow time to develop and plan for the next week.

Course programme

The course will be built around your own individual needs with regard to technical process, essentially it is a space that you can use to progress a project that you are working on, with support from the Tutor.
Individual and group discussion will be organised to help to drive your work forward .
Suggestions may be made regarding technique or process but these will be on an individual basis.

You might be interested in a longer course like the City Lit advanced textiles course that runs on selected Saturdays over two years and concludes with an exhibition.
