The University of Law Business School PG courses

I would definitely recommend the University of Law. For me it was the right fit for a variety of reasons, in particular, I was attracted by the commercial approach on the legal practice course and this helped me with having a quick start in my today career. I’m a Solicitor at Weightmans LLP and I graduated from The University of Law in 2010. I choose a career in Law because it was a career in which small people, with a working class background, could really push forward and become somebody. My attraction to law was compounded by the fact that my father spent a lot of time in prison during my early years. I therefore was naively attracted by the idea of fighting for my father’s liberty, although after my studies in law my interests expanded in other directions. I went to the University of Law to start my legal practice course, which is the professional course to become a qualified solicitor. I was lucky enough to obtain an internship at my actual firm, before completing the course. The University is highly regarded because of the high quality of teaching and career service. This university helped me to develop my confidence and commercial awareness required in a trained solicitor in a London Law Firm. I’ve got to see firsthand that with talent and passion there are no barriers to success in the legal profession. I am now very optimistic about my future career prospects, understanding that I could work in the UK or abroad.

Gaining an English legal qualification, I think for me is so valuable because it opens up opportunities to work globally and to get really involved in pro bono work and that’s something that I haven’t had elsewhere. I think if you have the aspirations for a long term international legal career, studying in London will give you that best stepping-stone, because it’s really at the heart of all the big corporate and financial transactions. If I had to choose one word to describe my experience I would say vibrant.

I studied Business Management at the University of Law Business School. My career aspirations are to go into marketing and to go into the digital marketing sector. Digital marketing is becoming such an important part of business like the rise of social media. The things you can do, the way you can promote yourself as a brand. I’m quite interested and passionate about the area. What I like about the teaching is the close contact hours we have and the close working relationship. I feel it is better that way because they can give you feedback very quickly. We have had obviously a few business professionals come in. We had the London Insurance Market come in and they were talking about some of the graduate schemes they do, and I think those business professionals that come in are very good contacts to have and it opens up a variety of options when you finish university.

I come from Hong Kong. What I found out about the University of Law is the support that it has for international students- So, for example, when I was getting my student visa there was a lot of support and contact between the staff. I think what I enjoy most about the teaching here at ULaw is that it’s taught by practitioners. They really colour the work that you do with their experiences. If I had to choose one word to describe my experience I would say inspiring.

I chose a career in law because I wanted to help individuals against the weight of the State and I wanted a career that had everything: exiting, challenging, awarding. And working as a criminal defence lawyer has all of the above and more. I chose the University of Law and Business School for three reasons: first was the location, you are right in the centre of London, and that was really important to me, because I used to do a lot of probono activities and so I need to get to places quite quickly after the classes. Also, the probono service. I was really impressed by the fact that they had such a big probono department with so many opportunities and I could get essentially all my work experience within the four walls of the university. And lastly it was the reputation, I was going to be investing a lot of time and money in my postgraduate education and I wanted to go to somewhere that would actually teach me well. And at the end of one of the open days I knew that the University of Law was where I wanted to be. I definitely recommend it! Here you will get all the knowledge and training you need with the best teacher at the best facilities with the best people.
