About this course
To be eligible to study on this course learners should have basic or functional skills, City and Guilds Entry Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance or 4 GCSE's Grade E or above. Second interview required for all applicants. (Good attendance, behaviour, ability.)

What will I Learn?
The Award covers the following 9 units:
- Working Safely and Efficiently during Vehicle Fitting Operations
- Basic Vehicle Construction and Layouts
- Basic Vehicle Front Wheel Alignment
- Basic Removal and Replacement of Light Vehicle Clutches
- Basic Removal and Replacement of Light Vehicle Exhaust Systems
- Basic Testing of Vehicle Charging Systems, Removal and Replacement of Batteries
- Basic Removal and Replacement of Light Vehicle Suspension Dampers
- Removal and Replacement of Basic Vehicle Braking System Components
- Basic Removal and Replacement of Standard Light Vehicle Tyres
These activities will be based in the College's well-equipped vehicle workshop.
How will I Learn?
Learners will attend technology classes, which will be reinforced with practical sessions in the Motor Vehicle Workshop.
Learners will be expected to perform practical tasks on motor vehicles with health and safety being considered throughout all tasks.
How will I be Assessed?
Learners' performance will be measured by a combination of written tests, computer based tests and practical assessments.
What Enrichments are Available?
Learners will have access to various activities within the College to develop and broaden their experience of College life. Learners will also be able to access Functional Skills in Communication and Application of Number at a level appropriate to their individual abilities.
Are there any Trips or Visits?
Trips and visits do not form a part of this course but learners are encouraged to take part in enrichment activities.
Is there any Work Experience?
Work experience does not form a part of this course although learners will spend significant time in the College workshops.
What can I Progress to?
The aim of the Award is to prepare learners for an Apprenticeship in Vehicle Fitting. Learners who want to progress onto a full-time course may be considered for the Technical Award/Certificate in Maintenance and Repair or the Level 2 Certificate in Vehicle Fitting.

Previous learners have successfully gained employment within the industry and progressed onto higher level qualifications.
