In the first part of this one-day session we will analyse the principles of CV writing. In the second part you will apply these principles to writing your own CV and we will look at how to draft a covering letter. This course is aimed at fluent/native speakers of English.

Course programme

You will analyse examples of CVs in order to identify the principles of persuasive writing.
You will examine the language and vocabulary used in CVs and covering letters.
You will work on your own CV.

The session will consist of presentations from your tutor, pair and group work, and class discussion. All writing courses at City Lit will involve an element of workshop. This means that students will produce work which will be discussed in an open and constructive environment with the tutor and other students. The college operates a policy of constructive criticism, and all feedback on another student’s work by the tutor and other students should be delivered in that spirit. For classes longer than one day regular reading and writing exercises will be set for completion at home to set deadlines.
