This qualification is for supervisors and first line managers. It is desigend to support the development of their skills. Gaining recognition for your supervisory skills is very important. Our thought-provoking, highly interactive course offers you personal development within your role through our core subjects and an opportunity to learn some of the other skills needed to embrace first line management. Successful completion of the course will give you a professionally recognised qualification.

Progression:
Successful candidates may progress onto the Chartered Management Institute diploma in management, which is also available at this College through the Foundation Degree in Business (Management) at the College.

Entry Requirements:
In our experience to be successful on this course you will need one of the following:
• four to five GCSEs at grades A*-C (including English and maths)
• an intermediate GNVQ in a related subject
• a BTEC first diploma in a related subject
• an NVQ Level 2/technical certificate in a related subject
• successful completion of an apprenticeship course
• successful completion of the Gateway/Newstart course
• equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.

In addition, you should hold either a certificate in team leading or the introductory certificate in management, and/or have a few years experience at supervisory or first line management level.

Duration: One year

Course Overview
What does the course involve?:

This course is intended for supervisors or team leaders who have the authority and personal attributes to organise and direct the work of others.

To achieve the certificate in management, candidates will need to successfully complete the five core units plus two optional units:

Each unit is achieved by wrting a report assignment of 2000 - 2500 words, or a presentation with accompanying notes.

The seven units coverd are:

• personal development as a first line manager
• resource planning
• meeting stakeholders needs
• managing and communication information
• developing individuals and teams
• maintaining quality standards
• improving team performance.

When can I study?:
Thursdays, 9.00am - 5.00pm

Are there any exams?:
Assessment is by means of seven internally set and assessed assignments and one externally set and assessed assignment. Completed portfolios, including eight modular reflections, are also assessable.
