Part TimeCandidates normally progress to this award by means of their organisational experience, role and responsibilities. This qualification is often taken by new entry chefs/cooks who are working towards their first full Level 2 qualification.This programme has been designed for people who want to follow a career in food preparation. Following the successful completion of this course, learners may wish to progress to a Level 3 NVQ in Hospitality Supervision or Professional Cookery (Food Preparation and Cooking).

Course programme

Candidates must complete 14 units in total, including the three mandatory units identified below, which will enable you to :


Depending on your current employment, this programme enables you to select a minimum of 11 more units from a range of 31 optional units to fit your job role. e.g.

You will be expected to work through the learning materials at your own pace. It is important to set yourself targets to make sure that you progress steadily through the award. We recognise that you will have a lot of experience and the programme will help you reflect on your own practice. Your assessor will support you by checking your progress with the learning materials and assessing your practice in the workplace. You will have a portfolio of evidence which includes records of your observations, activities and supporting materials. Each unit is assessed by a computer (or paper) generated end test, following a minimum of 20 hours study.
