Course programme
Performance Management and Appraisals are an essential component of the effective workplace. When well-planned and thoughtfully integrated they allow people to understand their roles within the company, be assessed on the quality of their work, and gain extra support and encouragement when required.
However, many managers find performance management challenging and uncomfortable. Often they feel ill-prepared. This course introduces a range of techniques and approaches that allow managers to integrate performance management into their day-to-day work. It also shows them how to handle difficult situations and convey criticism in a constructive way, as well using recognition and praise to improve performance.
Subjects covered include: setting realistic goals and expectations; supporting individual development; giving effective, constructive feedback; handling difficult messages; the role of recognition and praise; avoiding escalating problems; understanding and managing emotions; setting effective boundaries; dealing with difficult people; building confidence and morale in the workplace; managing the appraisal interview.
The course includes all study material, course book, Managing for Performance: delivering results through others, by Pam Jones, a detailed guide to study skills, and full tutorial support from your expert personal tutor.
