Psychology Academy
About the Course
Students will take the following compulsory courses:
* A-Level Psychology
* Psychology Plus
* The use of Statistics in Psychology
There are also optional courses available for Academy students. To allow you to manage your own workloads and to give you flexibility in choice, the following additional courses are offered:
* The Extended Project
* The Psychology of Film club
* Work Experience
* Counselling concepts
* Counselling skills (if 19 before June)
As a member of the Academy, you will form part of the Student Acceptance Committee for Psychology Day. This means that you are involved in choosing which studies attend the day for all Psychology students (GCSE, AS and A2) to participate in. As the â€-Use of Statistics course†dictates, all Academy students must conduct Primary Research and as such you run your own study on the day too.
Work Experience can take the form of a one day event, one week in half term or a regular slot per week that fits into your timetable. Examples so far include: Winchester Prison, Portswood Criminal Justice Unit and Salisbury Court.
Academy students also get a priority trip to Marchwood. You visit the premises and get to meet a real Cognitive-Behavioural Therapist who gives you a talk and answers any questions you have about career pathways, case studies etc.
The Psychology Academy is unique to Totton College.
