2. Course description Apprenticeships allow 16+ year olds to start work and earn a wage while learning new skills that lead to nationally recognised qualifications. Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers in the industry so they offer a structured programme that takes Apprentices through the skills needed to do a job well. Most of an Apprentices training takes place on the job but they will also have to complete off-the-job training within the College.The Level 3 Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Professional Cookery (Patisserie and Confectionary) is accredited by City and Guilds.You will complete 5 core units:Lead a team to improve customer serviceDevelop productive working relationships with colleaguesProvide leadership for your teamContribute to the control of resourcesMaintain the health hygiene safety and security of the working environmentYou also choose a number of optional units from a wide range that includes:Supervison reception servicesProvide learning opportunities for colleaguesContribute to the development of a wine listContribute to promoting hospitality services and productsSupervise functionsSupervise food production operationMaths and English or ICT will also form an important and mandatory part of your course.The Apprentice National Minimum Wage applies to all 16 to 18 year old apprentices and to those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. If the apprentice is aged 19 and / or has completed the first year of their Apprenticeship the employer must pay the National Minimum Wage appropriate for their age. Entry requirements To gain access to this course you will need to possess a Level 2 qualification such as the Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery Food Service Drink Service Hospitality Services or an equivalent. 4 or more GCSEs at grade C or above including English at grade C or above (or equivalent qualification e.g. Level 2 English) or other equivalent qualifications acceptable to the College.You must also undertake a successful interview and provide a satisfactory reference. 4. Equipment required No equipment required 5. Assessment method The course is assessed over the academic year with the leaner producing a portfolio of evidence. Evidence will include a wide range of dishes produced covering the above units.Theoretical knowledge will be assessed using multi choice test papers also known as UPK.
