Introduction
The CACHE Diploma in Child Care and Education replaces the well-known NNEB qualification.
Qualified child care and education workers work alone as well as in partnership with other professionals in the sector, to work unsupervised or to supervise other staff in a wide range of child care settings.

Duration
The CACHE Diploma in Child Care and Education candidates will follow a two year programme of study full time, three years part time, consisting of three days in College and two days in work placement.
The Council recommends that as a minimum, candidates should undertake the following pattern of work placements linked to age ranges:
0-1 years: 15 days
1-3 years: 30 days
4-7years: 40 days optional placement of candidates choice. Placement days must total 125 minimum over the 2 years.
Candidates are required to attend a minimum of 80% of the adopted hours for each unit in order to achieve the unit.
Assessment Candidates on the course are assessed continually throughout the duration of the course through national assignments, coursework and a final end test.
Grading and marking is on a scale of A-E.
Practical work in placements will also be assessed.
Progression
The CACHE Diploma in Child Care and Education is nationally recognised for employment purposes in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The award provides a sound basis for candidates to progress to other qualifications that are of a more advanced level. It offers progression to the Advanced Diploma in Childcare and Education, and Higher Education.
