Do you know how to progress your career? Are you prepared for future career opportunities? Do you know how to be successful?

In the past a career meant climbing the ladder, but that ladder has gone and even the concept of the "job" is disappearing. In today''s rapidly changing work environment the traditional career progression no longer exists. People and organisations need a new approach to career management that considers personal and professional development, individual contribution and long-term employability.

Career planning should start well before a change is to be made. Individuals should identify the necessary actions and decisions that precede future promotions, transfers or other career moves, so that these changes are by choice and not merely a reaction to circumstances.
This course helps learners to:
  • Understand the significance of career management for themselves and their organisation
  • Understand the aspects and components of career management principles and practice
  • Increase individual potential for meaningful career development, even where traditional promotion is not available
  • Increase productivity and job satisfaction as a result of an improved ''fit'' between an individual and their job.
Participants work through a variety of exercises, some self assessment and some group work to explore the two essential elements of career management.

Firstly, for the individual to gain a comprehensive understanding of themselves each person will develop an inventory of their skills, knowledge, attitudes and personal aspirations, combined with insights into important areas like image and reputation and the impact these aspects can, and do, have on career progression.

Secondly, understanding the importance of linking to the business needs of their organisation for today, and more importantly, for the future. What are the goals and objectives of their organisation? What are the internal and external issues and how will they impact on the business?

With the raised awareness of these two elements of career management the individual will be able to produce an action plan to achieve their career aspirations in line with the needs of the business.
