Demonstration in throwing will cover centering, pulling up and shaping clay. Finishing techniques will include alteration of thrown forms, fluting, faceting, slip application and glaze application. Students also will be introduced to basic handbuilding techniques. Learning outcomes (including what the student will be able to do by the end of the course): Basic throwing skills - Basic. Suitable for: Anybody interested in learning pottery techniques.

What will the course cover and what can I expect to do by the end of it?
Demonstration in throwing will cover centering, pulling up and shaping clay. Finishing techniques will include alteration of thrown forms, fluting, faceting, slip application and glaze application. Students also will be introduced to basic handbuilding techniques. What teaching and learning methods will be used on the course?
The programme is taught through tutor demonstration and caters for individual interests and potentials. Through one to one sessions, group discussions and sharing skills and knowledge within the group.
How will we assess your progress on the course?
Tutor feedback, group discussions, continious feedback following ILP's.
What type of qualification will passing this course give me?
No formal qualification.
What extra study/practice do we expect you to do outside the class?
Visits recommended to exhibitions.
What can I do after completing this course?
On completion of this course you will be alble to progress on any of our ceramic courses at WMC.
Are there any other costs? (e.g. materials, equipment or books I need to buy before or during the course)
Basic tools will be offered, but you may wish to buy additional tools for your personal use. List of tools will be provided, there is a charge of £16 per student per term and a £1,50 per pound for clay before firing. This covers cost of clay, glazing and firing.
