What can this course offer me?
AS Citizenship will give you a better understanding of the community in which you live as a UK citizen. It will provide opportunities to develop understanding of moral, ethical and social issues. It is an academic subject but will also prepare you for increasing your participation in YOUR community.
Citizenship particularly appeals to young people studying or interested in subjects such as Law, Sociology and Politics, but it is really for all those interested in developing their knowledge in order to 'make a difference'. You do not need to have studied it before.

What will I learn?
AS Citizenship will be taught as an Enrichment course for 1.5 hours per week and you will have about 10 lessons of Law, Sociology and Politics, each with a different teacher. You will take an active role in a Citizenship project of your choice and be encouraged to reflect on your own experiences.

Throughout the course you will have opportunities to debate, work on group presentations and participate in your own research. Discussion will form an essential part of every lesson and we will encourage you to become involved in Citizenship activities. There will be the chance to listen to visiting speakers, and visit the Magistrates' Court.
