Assess and reduce the risk of violence in the work environment. Identify behaviour that indicates an escalation towards violence and take appropriate measures to avoid or calm and defuse the situation. Identify post incident support and report the circumstances to provide information for personal and organisational learning. Demonstrate their ability to apply knowledge and understanding of conflict management into a variety of practical settings design relevant and effective scenarios for training in conflict management deliver and debrief interactive and scenario based sessions in the context. Suitable for workers, security operators, door supervisors, nhs and all those who interact face-to-face with fellow workers and the public. This course is designed to provide qualified trainers with the skills and knowledge required to deliver conflict management training to security staff, in accordance with the requirements of the sia for the purposes of licensing.

City & guilds 2886 level 3:award for deliverers of conflict management training.
Workplace violence and aggression is a growing concern in many industries including those in the public sector. Where the risk of workplace violence exists, employers have a legal and moral duty of care to provide adequate training and resources commensurate with the risk that staff face in their line of work.
This has lead to a nationaly recognised qualification being developed in order to meet the hse requirements thus meeting the employers duty of care in providing conflict management training to staff. Over previous years there have been many variations such as violence and aggression training or conflict resolution.
City and guilds 1886 award is suitable for those who work, or want to work as trainers of:
- security guards and public area personnel
- customer service positions
- bailiffs
- door supervisors
- event and entertainment personnel
what are the entry requirements?
delegates should have experience and or a recognised qualification in delivering training. Evidence of this must be provided in order to meet city & guilds criteria.
How long is the course?
3 days with pre-course case studies and assignments to complete.
What does the course involve?
the course will be delivered over three consecutive days, with completion of a pre-course assignment.
There are two units for this qualification:
unit 1 - understanding the principles of conflict management
1) assess and reduce the risk of violence in the work environment
2) identify behaviour that indicates an escalation towards violence and take appropriate measures to avoid or calm and defuse the situation
3) identify post incident support and report the circumstances to provide information for personal and organisational learning
4) demonstrate their ability to apply knowledge and understanding of conflict management into a variety of practical settings
unit 2 - designing and delivering conflict management scenarios
1) design relevant and effective scenarios for training in conflict management
2) deliver and debrief interactive and scenario based sessions in the context of conflict management training
Assessment
the qualification is assessed through a series of mandatory assignments that are set by city and guilds. All assignments are marked by tutors according to externally set marking criteria. A synoptic multiple choice assessment set by city & guilds completes the award.
