BTEC National
Introduction
The BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care course will help you to develop a range of skills, techniques, personal qualities and attributes essential for successful performance and working life.
The course is designed to provide specialist work-related qualifications in a range of sectors which prepare students to work in health-related careers in a professional capacity.
Many students progress on to university studying a range of subjects including Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Counselling and Teaching.

Work Experience
All students are required to spend time in a work placement.
This will be arranged for each individual to suit their timetable needs.
There will be a half day lifting and handling workshop prior to going out on work experience.
Entry Requirements
The most important thing you need in order to take the BTEC in Health and Social Care is a lively and enquiring mind, an interest in health and social care, a willingness to explore new ideas and an ability to communicate your ideas effectively.
Entrants need to be at least 16 years old and have 5 GCSEs grade C or above (including Grade C or above in English Language) or a GNVQ at Intermediate level (at least a Merit.)
acceptance is subject to interview by a Course Tutor who will need to be satisfied that students have reached a standard of literacy, numeracy and general education which will enable them to benefit from, and succeed on the course.
Prior life and work experience would be taken into consideration in the case of mature students.

The course will normally take 2 years full time.

Progression
A BTEC National Diploma Full Award is equivalent to 3 Advanced GCE passes at grades A-E.
Students with the qualification have access to a wide range of career and higher education opportunities.
You will learn skills throughout the course and these skills are in great demand both by employers and universities/colleges.
The course is suitable for those interested in applying for a degree or diploma in areas such as nursing, occupational therapy, chiropody, special needs, deaf studies, midwifery, nutrition, social sciences and social work.
Past students have been successful in obtaining places at university in these areas.Your course tutor will be able to advise you on the requirements for particular courses.
Employment and further training opportunities can be found in the areas of community care, health and education.
