PET pass, pass at ESOL Skills for Life Entry Level 3, or pass at initial assessment/interview. You should be able to: communicate satisfactorily in most every day situations with both native and non-native speakers of English; write accurately in different contexts and be capable of using a variety of sentence structures; be able to read and understand different types of text for general and detailed meaning.

What qualification will I receive?
University of Cambridge Certificates in ESOL Skills for Life Level 1: Reading Mode, Writing Mode, and Speaking & Listening Mode. (Optional extra: University of Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE) exam.)
Where can it lead?
It will improve job prospects and enable you to progress to the next language level and/or other appropriate courses.
What will I study?
You will develop and practise all the language skills - speaking, listening, reading and writing. You will also work on grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary.
How will I be taught?
You will have to buy a coursebook and workbook. In addition your teachers will use a variety of learning materials and classroom activities. Daytime courses may the use of computers. All students are encouraged to use the library (Learning Resources Centre), which has a large selection of books, tapes, CDs, videos and CD-Roms to help you with your studies. Free access to language websites on the Internet is also available.
How will I be assessed?
You will have regular homework, progress tests and a mock examination a few weeks before the final examinations.
What support is available while I am on the course?
Your teachers will be able to help and advise you during your course, which includes at least one personal tutorial per course (10-hour course only). The college offers a comprehensive range of student services including careers guidance.
