Course Details

The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. These Regulations apply to all workplaces including those with less than five employees and to the self-employed. This one day course is designed for persons in low-risk workplace environments to meet these requirements.

Delegates will receive training in a range of First Aid subjects including:

  • Aims and principles of First Aid
  • Priorities of Treatment
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation - Adult, child, baby
  • Recognition and Treatment of Regurgitation, Use of Face Shields
  • Choking - Adult, child, baby
  • Unconscious Patient (including recovery position & dealing with a patient who is in seizure)
  • Bleeding, Shock (blood loss theory, internal bleeding, recognition and treatment of shock)
  • Wounds and Bleeding (cross infection, treatment of bleeding and minor injuries)
  • Burns & Scalds
  • Recording Incidents and First Aid Actions

Assessment

Candidates will be assessed by ongoing practical assessment by the tutor.

Course Outcome

On successful completion of the course delegates will receive an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate which is valid for 3 years, along with a plastic card detailing their qualification. The HSE strongly recommends that candidates undertake an annual refresher course. Also, candidates must re-qualify after three years.

In-house Option

This course may be delivered on a nationwide basis for up to 12 delegates. This option enables us to provide the course on the dates/times dictated by the client. We are also able to modify the course content to relate to specific areas of risk.
