Who is this course for?
To improve the development of literacy skills for study, work or personal development.

What previous knowledge/experience are required?
No previous experience is necessary. You will carry out an assessment and your tutor will do a diagnostic assessment with you to ensure the work is pitched at the right level for you.

What is the level of the course?
E3/L1

What will the course cover and what can I expect to do by the end of it?
Speaking and Listening Reading Writing Grammar Spelling Punctuation

What teaching and learning methods will be used on the course?
Small groups, pair work and individual work. You will be shown ways of integrating your learning outside the classroom. Regular homework will be set.

How will we assess your progress on the course?
An initial assessment will identify where you are now. Then you will have a diagnostic assessment and agree your individual targets with your tutor. When you have achieved the targets you will discuss this with your tutor and agree new targets. You will receive regular feedback from your tutor on all areas of your work. At the end of the curse a new diagnostic assessment will take place for you to chart the progress you have made. If you take external tests these will show your progress and achievement.

Regular Homework

What can I do after completing this course?
You will achieve targets set against the National Standards for Literacy. Where appropriate you can work towards the National tests or an externally accredited exam such as Edexcel at Entry Level. You will use a computer as a learning aid.
