What is this course about? This is a student centred course where you learn how to operate sewing machines, how to understand and use commercial patterns to make simple garments such as skirts. You learn basic sewing techniques and produce samples to show these techniques.

What do I need to get on the course? Enthusiasm and interest in fashion and garment construction. You will also need after discussion and advice from your teacher a commercial pattern and fabric to make a skirt.
What will I study? This is a structured course where you will gain a good working knowledge of the use of both the sewing machine and the over locking machine. You will make a collection of calico samples of sewing techniques, which you can keep for future reference. You will also be shown how to use a commercial pattern and make a basic skirt; given time you may start another project and practice more complicated techniques.
What qualification will I get? There are no qualifications but as this is an adult course the emphasis is on the students enjoying their own creativity and learning new skills in fashion. There is great satisfaction to be gained by ones own clothes, which is the outcome of the learning process in the class.
What can I do after the course? Once you have learned the basic skills you can re enrol and work on more complicated techniques.
How do I get on the course? Enrol in person at the Centre for Business, Arts and Technology 444 Camden Road, London N7 0SP Tuesday to Thursday 5-7pm.
