Course Details

For the Award you must achieve units 1 and 2 at Pass grade. Unit 1: An Introduction to Working With Children Unit 2: Development from Conception to age 16 years For the Certificate you must achieve Unit 1 and 2 plus units 3-5. Unit 3: Supporting Children Unit 4: Keeping Children Safe Unit 5: The Principles Underpinning the Role of the Practitioner Working With Children For the Diploma you must achieve Units 1-5 plus units 6-9 and 3 of the option units from Units 10-21. These will be chosen by your Centre. Your Centre will select subjects that match the expertise of their tutors and give you the best skills for finding work in your area. Unit 6: Promoting a Healthy Environment for Children Unit 7: Play and Learning in Children?s Education Unit 8: Caring for Children Unit 9: Development of Professional Skills Within Children?s Education

Qualifications required:
3 GCSEs at grade C or above in core curriculum subjects and 2 grade Ds (English is essential at grade C.) Alternatively a GNVQ Intermediate or CACHE Level 2 Diploma in Childcare and Education C (22+ points) or above, along with GCSE English grade A-C (or Key Skills Communications at Level 2). Mature students with some childcare experience will also be considered. Candidates must complete a successful interview with satisfactory references. Entry to the course will be subject to a clean CRB check.

Course length:
2 years (full-time). 1 week in College and 1 week in placement alternate weeks.

Additional info:
Students will need stationery, materials to make play/learning equipment for children and recommended books. Minimum Attendance requirement is 85%

Progression:
Progression onto Higher Education and a variety of courses. CACHE Level 3 Diploma carries 360 UCAS points depending on unit grades achieved. Employment as a nursery nurse in a wide range of settings, eg foundation stage in schools/nursery units, private day nurseries, community work, eg Sure Start, health visitors, private nannies, children?s travel representatives.
