Certificate in Plumbing Level 1

What will I be learning?

Whilst on this course your Units of study will include: safety in the workplace, installing and testing pipe systems, materials and components such as copper fabrication, plastic pipe-work installation, guttering and rainwater systems, installation and maintenance of sanitary ware, including taps, ball valves and siphons, and learning as part of a team. Key skills are an integral part of the programme.

Practical and theory will be assessed using a combination of practical tasks and internally set papers. You will be entered for the tests when your tutor considers that you have developed suitable understanding and skills.

How will I learn?

Your theoretical knowledge will be assessed via multiple choice tests and your practical skills will be tested in the workshop through tutor observation.

What else might I want to know?

The College employs dedicated, well-qualified academic and learning support staff who continually update their industrial experience. We have industrial-standard workshops which are very well resourced. Safety footwear and overalls must be worn whilst carrying out practical, workshop activities; all other Personal Protection Equipment will be provided as required. You will need to provide basic stationery equipment.

As part of the tutorial session you will have the opportunity to sign up to the Duke of Edinburgh (Bronze) Award to assist your personal development.

What can I do afterwards?

You will be in a good position to secure an apprenticeship/employment with a plumbing company and continue your studies to NVQ Level 2, or a full time City & Guilds 6129 Technical Certificate.
