What will I be learning?

You will study all the basic knowledge & skills required to be a trained plumber which are: installing pipework systems, materials and components, copper fabrications, lead weathering to a fabricated chimney stack, hot and cold water systems, central heating systems, plastic pipework installation, guttering and rainwater systems, and installation of sanitary ware, including taps, float valves and siphons.

The Level 2 JTL Training Book is available for the College Bookshop.

How will I learn?

Practical and theory will be assessed using a combination of practical tasks and City and Guild test papers. You will be entered for the tests when you and your tutor feel that you have developed suitable understanding and skills to successfully pass the exam.

What else might I want to know?

The College employs dedicated, well-qualified academic and learning support staff who continually update their industrial experience. We have industrial-standard workshops which are very well resourced. You will have the opportunity to take part in trips and competitions Team building activities are also regularly organised .

Safety footwear and overalls must be worn whilst carrying out practical, workshop activities; all other Personal Protective Equipment will be provided as required. You will need to provide basic stationery equipment.

What can I do afterwards?

After the course you will be in a good position to secure an apprenticeship/employment with a plumbing company and continue your studies to NVQ levels 2 and 3. Typically after achievement candidates can progress (with full time employment) onto a City & Guilds 6089 Work Based Assessment Programme to convert the Technical Certificate into a full NVQ 2.
