On completion of the necessary industrial experience, trainees will be able to gain an NVQ Level 2 qualification in Carpentry & Joinery. Each trainee will be working towards credits for an ICA. A modular pattern allows.

No formal entry requirements are required, but a reasonable level of communication, arithmetical and manual skills is an advantage. This must be demonstrated through short aptitude tests and at selection interview.

Full Time Diploma in Site Carpentry and Joinery (Diploma Level 2)
Course Description:
The programme is aimed at candidates who wish to work towards a Level 2 qualification in Carpentry & Joinery but are unable to gain the necessary industrial experience. On completion of the necessary industrial experience, trainees will be able to gain an NVQ Level 2 qualification in Carpentry & Joinery. Each trainee will be working towards credits for an ICA. A modular pattern allows students to progress at their own pace on units of competence. The following units will be studied: Erect & Dismantle Basic Working Platforms Using Portable Power Tools Fixing Skirting, Architrave & Hinged Doors (first fix) Carcassing Before Finished Works 1 (second Fix) Carcassing Before Finished Works 2 (structural work) Portable Power Tools All trainees will be required to take and pass a Health & Safety exam and a Technical Certificate in order to gain the framework.

Assessment and Progression:
A combination of course work assessment for Carpentry & Joinery elements and multi choice examinations, leads to successful achievement of an Intermediate Construction Award. By gaining full time employment within the industry, this qualification may be converted through the addition of work based learning evidence to a NVQ level 2.
Duration:
Block release or 36 weeks at 15 hrs per week.
