Units within this course require applicants to work with younger children. All students will be screened by The Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) during enrolment at the college, as this will help identify applicants who may be unsuitable to work with children or other vulnerable members of society.
PROGRAMME CONTENT/STRUCTURE
This course is a vocationally related qualification (VRQ) designed for students who want to pursue a career in Sport and Recreation Industry whether in health and fitness, outdoor or indoor activities.
Learners will be assessed by a variety of means, such as, practical observations, internally marked and assessed case studies, a direct observation of instructing a gym session, completion of a portfolio of evidence along with externally set multiple choice theory papers.

Customer Service in Sport and Recreation

Health and Safety in Sport and Recreation
Sport and Recreation Facility Preparations and Cleanliness
Sport and Recreation Skills
Sport Hall Operations
Swimming Pool Operations
Working with People in Sport and Recreation
In addition to the 10 core units above learners will complete Fitness Instructing units and Activity Leader units.

Please note:
Work experience is an integral part of the programme and all students will have to participate in this activity.
PROGRESSION/CAREERS OPPORTUNITIES
After completing the Diploma in Sport and Recreation students may chose to progress onto the National Certificate in Sport course.
This is providing students have achieved Basic Skills Level 2 or have the equivalent.
Students will also need to have a minimum record of 80% attendance with good punctuality in line with the college policy.
Students may wish to find employment within the Sport and Recreational Industry, working as a gym instructor, activity leader or recreational assistant.
ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE Portfolio/ Assignments
EXCURSIONS / WORK EXPERIENCE Work Experience is a compulsory unit of this course. All students are expected to participate.
