Is it right for me?
Designed for people who have some experience of equitation and horse care, this one year course is an ideal introduction for school leavers wishing to pursue a career working with horses. Kingston Maurward has excellent facilities and well qualified staff which combine to develop your knowledge and skills, equipping you for a rewarding career in the equine industry.

Included in the course is practical instruction, theory sessions and work experience on our own yard where students gain plenty of practical experience. Successful completion of the course is the equivalent of four GCSEs at grade A* to C.

Being a British Horse Society examination centre, we encourage students to take relevant exams and course content is applicable to the BHS exam system. Additional costs apply and applications should be made direct to the BHS.

What qualifications will I need?
Four GCSEs at grades D/E including Maths, English, Science and one other subject, plus commitment to succeed.

What will I be learning about?
  • Horse preparation and presentation
  • Introduction to horse care
  • Introduction to biology
  • Horse industry and organisations
  • Horse handling and exercise

Work related experience in the horse industry plus the opportunity to ride and undertake British Riding Clubs' progressive riding tests
Level 2 Certificate in Safe Working in the Equine Industry

What is involved?
Lectures and practical sessions at Kingston Maurward plus work experience on our yard. Guest speakers and visits to a variety of equine establishments.

Where will it take me?
Employment within theequine Industry either working directly with horses or in an ancillary industry. Progression to the National Diploma in Horse Management on completion of the course at Distinction level.

What else does the course include?
  • BHS Riding and Road Safety Test.
  • Opportunity to sit additional BHS exams.

What materials are required?
We have a strict uniform and equipment policy ' the uniform can be viewed on our website enabling you to purchase the required items before the start of your course. Basic stationery.
