What will I be learning?

The course is made up of seven units - three mandatory core units and four specialist units. The specialist units enable you to study areas in more depth.

The course is focused on producing media products, using state of the art equipment and software. Students will become accomplished in camera work, film editing, animation and digital graphic software. The course encourages students to be creative in their approach and professional in their production skills.

How will I learn?

In each unit you will be given assignments designed to achieve clear learning outcomes which will then be graded at pass, merit or distinction level. Work is applied to specific work related situations or activities, often with opportunities for teamwork and in-depth study. Later in the course you will have a final major project to complete which will confirm your knowledge and understanding across the programme.
You will learn basic design skills, planning for products, camera work, editing and animation skills.

What else might I want to know?

You may be required to provide or purchase some media storage materials. The Media section offers a series of trips and visits where attendance is voluntary.

What can I do afterwards?

A BTEC First Diploma prepares you for employment and provides a good grounding to go on to a more advanced course such as a BTEC National Diploma in Moving Image or The BTEC National Certificate in Creative ITC.
