About this course

This course is suitable for students of all ages. A good general standard of education, 3 GCSEs at grade A-D or completion of a Level 1 Hairdressing Course or a very good standard of Literacy and Numeracy and well as an aptitude to Hairdressing.
It is desirable to have some basic experience of hairdressing industry.

Hairdressing NVQ 2

Course content:
The NVQ Level 2 courses in hairdressing are a one year intensive challenging course for those individuals who have drive, enthusiasm and a huge passion for hairdressing. This course covers everything you will need to take you forward to hairdressing success
Upon receipt of an application, an interview will be arranged, followed by a taster session which will include an aptitude/ dexterity test. This will enable us to determine the suitability of the course you have applied for. There are nine units to this course, covering a range of specialist hairdressing subjects, including:
- G20- Making sure your own actions reduce risks to Health and Safety
- G17- Give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
- G7- Advise and consult with clients
- GH8- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
-GH9- Change hair colour
- GH10- Style and finish the hair
- GH11- Set and dress the hair
-GH12- Cut the hair using basic techniques
- G18- Promote additional services or products to clients (Optional)

Course Structure:
This course will provide students with essential knowledge, skills and techniques required to perform Hairdressing treatments and industry related tasks.
Tutorial and Portfolio building, Skills related workshops, You will be required to attending external exhibitions, enter relevant in-house shows, external hairdressing competitions and extra curriculum enrichment activities.
You may be required to attend one evening a week.
You must have a current 1-2 day per week placement in a salon

Course resources:
Excellent salon training environment; the latest products in the market are used at the college. All students have access to our fully equipped, state-of-the-art Learning Centre. This includes free Internet access.

Assessment:
Continuous assessments by observation on paying clients for practical skills and formal and informal on-line tests, there may be some written assignments and tests. Portfolio of evidence. ESOL and additional support sessions is provided where required

Next step:
City and Guilds NVQ Level 2 in Beauty, Level 2 Barbering, Level 3 after gaining employment, or a career as a Junior / Junior Stylist. Short Specialist Courses

Fees Info
The fee where stated is an 'INCLUSIVE FEE' for UK/EU students. This fee includes the tuition fee, examination fee and exam board registration fee. You may have to pay extra for materials for the course. If you are under 19 years or you are in receipt of an income related benefit the course and exam fee is FREE. Students aged 60+ years pay 70% of this fee. Students aged 19+ will also have to pay a College Registration Fee of £30 (or £20 if you receive benefit) once per academic year.Materials costs:
£250 - Hairdressing Kit - including College T-shirts; City & Guilds Portfolio, www- site access. Additional fee will be required for external trips
