Entry Requirements
College general entry requirements for Higher Diplomas apply including a D in Maths. You would need to consider re-sitting Maths & English GCSE if necessary. A genuine interest in IT is essential together with a commitment to coursework.

Course content
This course is designed to develop candidates knowledge and understanding of the Information and Communication Technology sector. You will gain the skills you need for a successful career in this area. Seven units of Principal Learning will be delivered throughout the year:
Unit 1: The Potential of Technology
Unit 2: Exploring Organisations
Unit 3: Effective Communication
Unit 4: Skills for Innovation
Unit 5: Technology Systems
Unit 6: Multimedia
Unit 7: Managing Projects
In addition to this, you will need to:
Undertake an IT project for a real business
Pass Functional Skills for Maths, English and ICT
Take a specialist learning unit (currently offered at both Bexhill College and HCAT)
Undertake at least 10 days Work Experience in a business environment
Candidates MUST pass all elements of this course to gain the Diploma qualification
Who Is The Course For?
The Diploma is an exciting qualification that will challenge and stretch you as a learner, whether you are preparing for university or employment. It offers a mix of theoretical and applied learning, including functional English, maths and ICT, and the opportunity to develop a speciality or take on complementary study. The Diploma will give you as a learner first-hand experience and insight into the world of work by providing opportunities to take part in a practical real world environment.

How Will I Be Assessed?
All units are centre-assessed and externally moderated by EDEXCEL with the exception of Unit 7 (Managing Projects) where it is externally assessed by a five hour examination (the exam will take place during a three week window). Candidates must complete units to deadlines set by the subject tutors. The units from this qualification are graded on a four-grade scale.

What Could I Do Next?
Successful completion of this course is equivalent to seven GCSEs grade A C. You could go on to study IT Practitioner, Graphic Design or Multimedia or Level 3 Diploma. The course also provides access to A level studies, and will prepare you for further training or employment as a computer user e.g. in computer sales, administration, ICT support roles etc.

Are There Any Special Expenses?
A printing allowance will be given to each student which should cover the cost of printing homework. Students are expected to pay for any additional printing. A memory stick is an advisable extra and can be purchased from the Colleges stationery shop.
